Marty WalshMarty Walsh brings to Gateway Public Solutions two decades of experience in economic, business, and policy development, federal, state, and local government, and political campaigns at all levels.

Prior to founding Gateway Public Solutions, Marty served as Director of the Massachusetts Office of Business Development (MOBD) for Governor Deval Patrick. At MOBD, Marty guided companies through the myriad of federal, state, and local systems for grants, tax incentives, and other government assistance. He partnered with growing enterprises in emerging technologies including biotechnology and alternative energy, as well as many other business sectors.

Marty’s tenure at MOBD included securing the siting of and funding for the NREL Wind Blade Test Facility in Charlestown, Massachusetts; retaining biopharmaceutical company Shire in Massachusetts and locating Brookfield Renewable Power Headquarters in Marlboro; leading the rebranding of state and quasi-government economic development agencies known as the Business Resources Team; and driving marketing efforts for the Commonwealth’s "It’s All Here" campaign.

At MOBD, Marty spearheaded two legislative initiatives focused on sector development—the Massachusetts Life Sciences Bill and the Green Communities Act—both of which became law in 2008. For the Life Science Bill, Marty collaborated with industry leaders and legislators conducting public hearings across the state to garner support for the bill. For the Green Communities Act, he partnered with cities and towns to promote the benefits of the bill and rally communities to support its passage.

Marty also served on the Commonwealth’s Board of the Economic Assistance Coordinating Council (EACC). At EACC, he coordinated with municipal economic development agencies to provide a state tax credit to companies in return for job creation and private investment. In the process he developed effective working relationships with local economic development and procurement officers throughout Massachusetts.

Prior to his work in the Patrick Administration, Marty worked for U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy in Washington, D.C, for eight years. He served as a Legislative Assistant on the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension (HELP) Committee, coordinating all of Senator Kennedy’s efforts for economic development, energy, environmental, and other domestic issues. He engaged advocacy groups in grassroots campaigns and media strategies that helped pass some of the most high profile federal legislation of the era.

Over the last two decades, Marty has directed and advised winning political campaigns at every level. His recent successes include serving in 2012 as general consultant for Congressman Joseph Kennedy and directing Election Day operations for U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren in the 4th Congressional District of Massachusetts.

Marty served as campaign manager for the 2006 re-election of Senator Kennedy, and has managed mayoral, legislative, and lieutenant gubernatorial campaigns. His extensive experience also includes directing successful voter turnout operations in 2010 and 2008 for President Obama, Governor Patrick, Congressman Barney Frank, and Congressman Stephen Lynch; managing Central Florida for John Kerry for President in 2004; and serving as a coordinator for the 2000 Florida Recount.

Marty is a graduate of the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and resides in Natick, Massachusetts with his wife and three children.
